Ninja Five

(Manny took the top one, August took the bottom one)

Somehow, in the next few weeks, I will have both a new four year-old and a new five year-old. By "somehow", I mean that I will have no control over the sun and these two boys are going to grow, and Augie will lose a tooth this week, and Manny will learn all the letters in his name. While I say "don't get big! be little!" to them, I silently wish them to be bigger, smarter and wiser. I don't know. I'm having a hard time putting all this stuff down in a meaningful way. I feel it coming, though.

  1. Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of you with the boys…as long as I’ve been reading. They are beautiful and that bottom one cuts right through my heart. Time marches on…

  2. You have a beautiful family. I’m visiting again after sometime away (for no particular reason) and I can’t believe how big your boys are. Amazing!

  3. Damn wheels of time. Good? Bad? Bitter? Sweet? Still can’t figure them out.
But geez, what fine photographers, your boys.
Happy almost-birthdays, and all they entail.

  4. Melissa those photos are phenomenal! I’m kind of blown away that the boys took them. And don’t even get me started on the growing up business, five is still very much new to us and rattling our world a bit. Loose teeth? Gah! So. Not. Ready!

  5. Don’t worry. They can be smart, wise and still like things like a little kid. As long as you give them permission to still be a kid whenever they want, they will keep that side with them. I’m still wondering when I’ll grow up! I would love a bouncy house for my birthday! Happy Birthday, boys!!

  6. I feel you. It is bittersweet, this growing up. I have spent hours (when I should be sleeping) looking at baby photos with a mix of longing and relief. The babies are so precious, but these new people are so rad.

  7. Yes it is strange. You want to stop time and at the same time you want to se who they will become. Those lovely creatures living in your home. The ones you love more than you can bare sometimes. But you will see what time has in store. Sooner rather than later.

  8. wow, i remember when you first wrote about going to pick up august! i guess i’ve been reading your blog for over 5 years. happy adoptive-mom-iversary!
